Introduction: Sending SMS to :Malaysia

To send SMS messages to Malaysia, use the international prefix +60. CM has indirect access to an MNP database of Malaysia and direct connections to operators through a local partner. CM also has access to 2-way solution via dedicated short code. Use CM's platform for all your SMS services, SMS marketing campaigns, SMS alerts and SMS voting in Malaysia. Alphanumeric sender

Alphanumeric senders are allowed in Malaysia but will be overwritten with a random Malaysian number or short code.

Character set

    GSM

All Malaysian operators use the GSM character set. Unicode messages are supported by all operators and concatenated SMS are supported by all Malaysian operators except Digi supports.

Two Way Messaging

    SUPPORTED

Two Way Messaging can be configured in Malaysia with shared and dedicated short codes. A full service description with a business case is needed for registration.

Delivery reports

    NOT AVAILABLE

Only Celcom supports Handset DLR. Other operators in Malaysia return SMSC DLR.

SMS restrictions in :Malaysia

Content restrictions

"RM0.00 " (7 char) is added to the message body to indicate that the subscriber can opt-out for free by replying to the SMS. It is not allowed to send free messages for the promotion of a premium service. There are restrictions on sensitive content like gambling, politics and religion next to those that prevent abuse (spam, phishing, etc).

Sender restrictions

Dynamic senders are not allowed by Malaysian operators exept CellCom and UMobile. All senders will be changed to a short code or long code. Maxis and Digi let certain numeric senders through (not reliable).
